The Label Factor:
This label does a great job of putting me in a vacation mindset. I guess it’s the HC palm tree logo that transports me to a warm, tropical island where the drinks are plentiful and the bikinis are skimpy. The beach frame of mind goes perfectly with this cigar.
What We Liked:
The HC Habano² is a well made cigar that burns long and straight. The box-press is flawless and makes for a very comfortable smoke that won’t roll away. Because it’s square.
I got super excited after lighting this up. Not since the Alec Bradley Tempus have I tasted such distinct chocolate flavor in a stick. The unfortunate news is that it doesn’t stay around long. I counted a total of three good puffs before it went away. Don’t worry though, the flavor stays delicious.
People say cigars taste like a lot of strange things. I’ve heard reviewers call out flavors of “dried fruit” in some reviews and always thought that was a bit dubious. Not anymore. After the chocolate subsided, I was introduced to strong, raisiny highlights with a sweet tobacco undertone. Seriously, this cigar is a sweetie. Raisin and brown sugar were predominant with a fair amount of spice to balance things out.
I smoked the Xikar HC Habano² while drinking a Dr. Pepper. If you get the chance, I would encourage you to do the same. I can’t stress enough that this is a sweet cigar and it really goes nicely with the DP. Don’t try to go the Diet Dr. Pepper or the Dr. Pepper 10 for men route, just stick with the regular, even if you are a man. This is a good after-dinner dessert smoke. I wonder if this cigar has calories in it?
What We Didn’t Like:
This is a strong cigar and packs quite a punch. Either you like that kind of thing, or you don’t. The kick seemed weirdly at odds with the sweet flavor profile. For some reason, I think of those attributes as being mutually exclusive in a cigar. Guess I was wrong.
Should You Try/Buy It:
Yes! This is a very pleasant, sweet smoke. In terms of construction, flavor and value, it’s all top notch. I’d call this a no-brainer. Try it! Variety is the spice of life and this cigar will add variety to your humidor and spice to your life. Try this cigar. It’s good.
