Summary:

The Oliva Serie V checks all the right boxes. Solid construction? Check. Great flavors? Check. Reasonably priced? Check. I certainly understand why this cigar receives a lot of praise. If, like me, you've been waiting on the sidelines to try this one, now is the time to get off the bench.

The Label Factor:

Outside of the Melanio, the Oliva Serie V is my favorite label in the Oliva Serie…series? If you take a look at the Serie O and Serie G, it becomes clear that the V is a premium stick. With richer colors and a larger label, the V obtains a higher level of polish than it’s cheaper brothers and sisters.

What We Liked:

The appeal of the label is further enhanced by the Diadema size. I want more cigars like this. My recent progression towards smaller rings is growing stronger with each passing sub-50 ring stick. The Oliva V smoked and burn flawlessly, as you can probably tell from the photos. I tried to capture the fantastic smoke production in the photos, but the wind was like, “No!” You’ll just have to trust me on that one.

For some reason, I went into the Serie V thinking I didn’t like the Serie V. I thought this was my second time smoking one and had recalled the first experience negatively. Now I am thinking I probably smoked a Serie G or Serie O. Either way, I was obviously mistaken because the Oliva Serie V was delicious.

For the first few puffs, you can expect a fair amount of spice. I’m always a bit concerned when a stick starts this way but my fears were short-lived. The spice persists throughout but it becomes more balanced with the additional of a sweet woodiness a half-inch or so in.

Towards the middle, the earthiness of the the Oliva V ramps up with the addition of a fairly strong leather component alongside some dark coffee notes. It’s weird how leather can be a desirable flavor in cigars. I would never want to eat leather but I seem to enjoy smoking it. Combined with the sweet wood and pepper, the Serie V was a tasty cigar from start to finish.

What We Didn’t Like:

The size is a double edged sword. While I absolutely love it, as far as I can tell, it’s only available as part of this Oliva sampler. That is a shame because I would love to buy a five pack of just the Diadema! Do you hear me Oliva? Of course, if any of our readers can prove me wrong, let me know!

No doubt about it! The Oliva Serie V checks all the right boxes. Solid construction? Check. Great flavors? Check. Reasonably priced? Check. I certainly understand why this cigar receives a lot of praise. If, like me, you’ve been waiting on the sidelines to try this one, now is the time to get off the bench.
