The Label Factor:
I’m a big fan of the Illusione labels. Much like the Epernay, the MK Ultra keeps things simple and clean, while still catching your eye. And honestly, with a stick that looks as flawless as this, you don’t want a big label getting in the way.
What We Liked:
Starting off with a very subtle peppery spice accompanied by a rich tobacco and leather, the MK Ultra wastes no time winning you over. I was angry when I reached the halfway point because I was deliberately trying not to ever get through this cigar. The anger was abated by the delicious flavors of coffee and cedar coming through. It’s not often I found this interesting combination of black coffee and wood, but it was a fantastic and interesting change of pace.
Through to the end, the flavors get richer and deeper, and begin to enter into flavor-bomb territory…but in a good way. There is quite a bit of a nicotine punch by the time the nub hits your ash tray so this is most definitely not a cigar to hand off to a cigar newbie. Unless, of course, that cigar newbie is your mortal enemy and you wish to make them suffer through some nausea.
The Corona vitola of the MK Ultra is, dare I say, perfect. I find my life getting busier and busier by the day, and a little cigar like this accommodates my hectic life. I’ve recently been on a quest to find smaller cigars to add to my arsenal, and am glad to add yet another to the list.
The smaller vitola is also incredibly oily and produces insane amounts of smoke. The whole time I was having flashbacks to the Liga Privada Dirty Rat, another small stick I have a crush on. I think you could fool quite a bit of people by throwing a Dirty Rat label on the Illusione MK Ultra.
What We Didn’t Like:
Honestly, the only thing that comes to mind is that I don’t have more of these in my humidor. This stick came to me by way of a trade and I’m not sure any stores around me carry them. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out both in store and online.
Should You Try/Buy It:
This little dude brings a ton of delicious flavors, won’t make you commit to a multiple hour smoke session, and carries a reasonable price. Unless you don’t like full bodied, powerful sticks, the Illusione MK Ultra is a no-brainer.
